Art for A Good Cause: “Auction 9” Fundraiser for new LAUSD Public Arts HS Thursday, June 2nd

WHO: HS#9 (Central LA High School for the Visual and Performing Arts) is public high school whose primary mission is to offer the highest caliber of arts and academic education to a diverse and historically under-served student population drawn from both local community and district-wide aspiring artists.
WHAT: The 1st Annual Art Auction Fundraiser features
> large silent auction
> festive Loteria games with prizes
> Loteria-style photo booth
> End-of-year student art show
The auction features art by internationally renowned artists such as David Lynch, Shepard Fairey, Clayton Brothers, Betye Saar and many more, including works from the Luis Buñuel Film Archive and Charles and Ray Eames Office. Many Loteria–themed artworks, created especially for the event, will be included in the auction.
The Loteria Party will feature live Loteria games (similar to Bingo). Winners will receive gift baskets and prizes that range from movie DVDs to MOCA passes to an iPod Touch.
More than 200 artworks will be included in the auction and more than 500 in the student art show.
Top LA artists and merchants will be present to lend their support.
Hors d’ oeuvres will be served. Sponsors so far include Loteria Grill, Tinga, Los Angeles Pizza, and Rock and Roll Pizza. Sponsorship opportunities are still available.
Tickets are $10 for Adults and $5 for students.
WHY: Art supplies are expensive, and next school year there is no budget for them. As a Title One school that serves the under-served, our students cannot such supplies. All proceeds from the event go to purchasing supplies for our school’s Visual Arts Academy.

HS 9 is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles and was created to serve the under-served youth of LA by providing them with a rich and rigorous education in the arts and academics.
