Los Angeles Downtown News"Art for a Good Cause: Artwork Fundraiser event for Visual Arts Academy on June 2"

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – The High School for the Visual and Performing Arts doesn’t have enough money for something pretty crucial: art supplies.
So the school is planning an auction to raise cash to buy supplies for its students in the Visual Arts Academy (the school, formally known as Central Los Angeles High School No. 9, is broken into four academies, with focuses in music, theater, performing and visual arts).
On June 2, the school will host an auction offering works by an array of artists, including Shepard Fairey, filmmaker David Lynch and the Clayton Brothers.
All proceeds from the auction and entrance fee go towards the purchase of art supplies. Organizers hope to raise at least $10,000 to fill the school’s materials budget gap, said Joan Dooley, a media arts teacher at the school.
The auction happens from 6-8:30 p.m. The event will also have ongoing games of Loteria, a Mexican card game similar to Bingo, and a student art show happens before the auction, from 4-6 p.m.
Tickets are $10-$25 and can be purchased with cash or credit card at the event. The school is at 450 N. Grand Ave., (213) 217-8727 or central-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com.
